preliminary results are in...

It's worth it. I have no freaking clue what I'm doing and these pictures are already light years better! Take a look at my two guinea pigs:

My rings and my dog. I always struggled getting decent shots of both, especially indoors with the flash....Henry because he always closes his eyes during the flash, and my rings because diamonds are just hard to get focused [at least on our point and shoot].

Ah, I forsee many more picture-laden posts in the future! Can't wait until I actually understand the settings and take it off 'automatic'.

On a sad note, I am getting very old. I've always boasted perfect 20/20 vision and have never needed to hassle with glasses/contacts/etc. But inside the little viewfinder of our camera, there are green numbers that will appear. I told Nate that there must be a way to focus the numbers since they are all blurry and he informed me that it's my eyes, not the camera [as he peered through his coke-bottle glasses]. Curses! My eyes are failing me at my old age!

  1. there should be a little dial by the viewfinder that you can adjust for your eyes.

  2. so exciting! Rings ARE hard to shoot.

I had to get readers not long ago too. I feel totally old when I have to squint and hold menus far away to read them. If it is any consolation, I got the glasses at Anthropologie and they are really cute!

  3. Ah, thank you Kate! That did help. Nate doesn't know what he's talking about.

But if I did have to get glasses, I'd totally check out Anthropologie! Any excuse to shop there works for me. :)

  4. You will not regret getting that camera. My mom gave me a rebel as our wedding present right before we went to Paris, and the shots I have because of that are stunning. The camera is so easy to use. You'll love it.

  5. I kept having to squint at my music in rehearsals several years ago, thinking that it was SOOOO dark in the hall. And then, glasses. Granted, I have, like, the lowest power ever. But, think of the cute frames you can get! :) The pics are awesome too -- maybe a few photography jobs are in the future for you too?

  6. Amazing pictures!!! I sooo want a DSLR... I don't know how I'll convince the husband on that one though.

Henry is just the cutest :) I love taking pictures of my dog, but he often ends up with scary glowing demon eyes....

  13. Congrats on the new camera! Now you'll just need an external hard drive to accomodate the thousands of photos you'll be taking!

My once perfect eyesight is going too-I think I'm becoming nearsighted:( I haven't bucked up and seen anyone yet though. Watch out at dusk on the roads b/c I can't see anything!

  17. Just wait until you start wanting other lens and flashes, etc. to go along with your new toy!!!

Try putting it on the "P" mode and shooting a bit that way to see what you come up with. And totally take a class because what is the use of having an SLR if you can't figure out the other settings.

    Have fun!!!
