Roll Over!

Since I figured out how to shoot video on our digital camera, I've been really obsessed with catching Henry-isms. The only problem is I can't figure out how to do sound....maybe it's not possible on our camera, huh?

Anywho, I present to you the following masterpiece: Henry refusing to roll over. He used to know this trick perfectly when he was a puppy-- then we got lazy and only made him sit, stay, shake, and lay down. Now I think he's forgotten how to roll over which is quite saddening, actually. He will do a sequence of stellar tricks without instruction when we have a treat to award, but alas...no rolling over. No matter how hard we try:)

Please note the fury of his shaking, and sitting, and laying down. If only he could speak English I'm pretty sure he'd be cursing at us for this one:

  1. That's exactly how Sadie is. She used to be so great at roll over, we even were the proud parents as everyone Oh'd and aw'd her roll over performance in puppy school. The only difference is that Sadie got lazy with rolling over. No matter what we do now, she acts like she doesn't understand what you want. It's quite comical.

    BTW, Henry is too cute!

  2. LOL! Too cute!

Just curious... do you have a Sony digital camera? We just bought ours a few months ago and I've jumped through ALL KINDS OF HOOPS to get the sound to export in QuickTime on my MacBook. Ugh. It's because Sony records in MPEG-1 format, which is old and sucky. Try a little program called MPEG Streamclip (it's free!). You can export video AND sound into smaller file sizes so you can share via email and on the 'net. It'd be priceless for us to actually listen to Nate as he tries to convince Henry to roll over! :)

  3. I hope you can get the sound to work, because I am sure the future exchanges between Nate and Henry would be hilarious.

I must say though, I can give him a free pass for not rolling over since he is so darn cute!

  4. OMG, that was hilarious. I love how Henry kept moving further away from Nate. I may have to watch that again. LOL!

  5. It's an Olympus, and I didn't even know we could do videos until recently. I don't see any microphone or anything to record sound....and when I upload it the file is a .MOV whatever that means. I think it's a lost cause.

But yes, if you could hear the sound it would be even better. Henry yodels when he is angry:)

  6. We have the same problem. It took me 4 years to figure out William knows how to shake, he just doesn't want to. If I ask him a million times he "humphs" rolls to his side and sticks his paw in my arm. Then he looks at me like, "why do you make me do this $hit."

  7. LOL @Melissa!

Henry is funny. Charlie does the same kind of thing when I want him to rollover. He will try to shake, high-five, and speak before I can get him to rollover. AND he doesn't even roll over all the way. Just onto his side.

    Dogs totally have our number.

  9. Oh, he's too cute! He's all "dude, I'm doing what you want me to do, now give me the treat already. See, I can shake, I can lay down, what more do you want?" :)

  10. nice! i esp ove the part when nate slaps him.

my parents' dog is the same way. we went thru the "sit, shake, lay....roll over!" and then i actually did flip the dog myself (thinking he'd get used to it). after that he wouldn't sit for me for a week!

  11. hilarious video! It reminds me of training Zoe to roll over, except when she gets frustrated she jumps up, spins around a couple times then runs around the house at full speed! Still waiting for that puppy energy to fade away. Here's a tip we learned from Zoe, try making him roll over on carpet. Zoe refuses to roll over on the hardwoods or the tile, I'm guessing it probably doesn't feel too good. However, if we get her on an area rug, she'll do it with just a little coaxing.

  12. Stupid work computer! I can't see the video here, so I'll have to wait until I get home.
Libby has always refused to rollover. I'm pretty sure she's scared crapless. She doesn't like to feel out of control. The same reason she HATES smooth floors. She makes herself go all slippy slidey and the freaks the eff out. I'm like, lady, it's your fault you're skidding all around. *Sigh* Dogs will be dogs.
Oh, I will hopefully get an email out tonight about the GTG. It's always been in the back of my mind, don't worry!
