Stitch Fix #4 | Let's Try This Again

I haven't opted for a Stitch Fix since September and felt very lukewarm about the whole process after my last box. But then Stitch Fix emailed me and said if I scheduled a fix before Christmas, they would waive the $20 styling fee. And I had some referral credit to spend (thank you, readers!!) so I decided to go for it.

I wrote a fairly direct note to my stylist saying that I wasn't too excited over my last fix, asking her to really wow me and nail my style. I reminded her that I like bold colors, long tops, and didn't want any pants or accessories in my fix. I mentioned that I live in Wisconsin (hint: it's cold here) and also referred to my Pinterest board--something I didn't feel like any of the other three stylists ever viewed prior to this fix.

I scheduled the fix to arrive on December 21st which seemed like it would be a fun time to receive a box full of clothes. Turns out that I didn't even open the box until the day after it arrived, which is some sort of record for me to wait longer than two minutes before tearing it open. There was just too much going on in our personal lives that week with Kellan for me to care about my fix at first. But here I am, blogging about the fix weeks later because it's still a fun way to document what I've kept and returned each time. Seems like I'm noticing a big trend with my kept pieces, too---see if you can spot the winners before I tell you what I kept. ;)

My new stylist was Kelley and I was impressed with her personalized note to me, since she mentioned my Pinterest board and also my 'likes and dislikes' from my personal style profile.

1. Mystree Chamberlin Striped Drape Front Cardigan: $78
2015-12-31_0003

I love stripes, I love long and open cardigans, and this color combo is right up my alley.
Mystree Chamberlin Striped Drape Front Cardigan: $78

Really don't love the price tag but for a heavy weight sweater, I suppose $78 is acceptable. Especially because it's long enough in the arms for me---a rarity.

Mystree Chamberlin Striped Drape Front Cardigan: $78

Mostly I think this fits with my mom uniform nicely--a flowy top that can be worn over a fitted tank, plus jeans or leggings. I think this is a 'cool mom' outfit that isn't too fussy or fancy. The more I think about it, the more this cardigan reminds me of the 41Hawthorn blue cardigan I kept from my very first fix. But this one is patterned (bonus) and is a heavier weight, and $30 more but whatever.

VERDICT: KEPT IT

2. Market & Spruce Colibri Plaid Printed Tab-Sleeve Shirt: $48

2015-12-31_0004

Kelley mentioned that I pinned plaid but also listed plaid as a 'dislike' on my profile. I must fix that because I really do like plaid now (#crowdfollwer) and normally this is a top that I'd consider keeping.
Market & Spruce Colibri Plaid Printed Tab-Sleeve Shirt: $48
But I'm not a big fan of how thin this material is in person, and the big split at the bottom side seam really bugs me. Broken record alert, but it just doesn't feel long enough for my torso and then combined with the side seam split, it doesn't feel flattering.
Market & Spruce Colibri Plaid Printed Tab-Sleeve Shirt: $48
I do love the color and the print, and normally the henley collar/roll sleeve combination is a favorite. Just wish my tank top I had to wear underneath (because it was so sheer) didn't hang out the bottom like this.

VERDICT: Returned

3. Papermoon Qamra Draw String Tunic: $58

2015-12-31_0005

Obsessed with the royal blue color, and just the word 'tunic' gives me the warm and fuzzies. Kelley said that because of the drawstring, this top wouldn't be too boxy on me.

Papermoon Qamra Draw String Tunic: $58

I wanted to love it so much and tried it on a few times just to be sure, but it just didn't seem to be a great cut on me. Not sure why other than the fact that the drawstring when pulled tight looked odd and when left loose looked even worse.

Papermoon Qamra Draw String Tunic: $58

Maybe drawstrings just remind me of maternity tops or something, I don't know. But I didn't love this top enough to keep it. Great detailing on the shoulders though!

VERDICT: Returned

4. Kut From the Kloth Sinclaire Button Front Blouse: $68

2015-12-31_0006

Kelley said she saw a lot of florals on my Pinterest board, and I really do love floral prints although I don't think I own a single one. I don't think of florals during winter usually, but maybe it still works during blizzards and dreary 20 degree days. Something about pretending it's Spring? When I pulled this out of the box I was disappointed in how sheer it was.

Kut From the Kloth Sinclaire Button Front Blouse: $68

But then I tried it on and felt it redeemed itself by the length, the fit at the shoulders, and the different print for me. Hmmmm, what to do?

Kut From the Kloth Sinclaire Button Front Blouse: $68

I didn't mind the sheerness of the top once I had it on my body and figure that sheer shirts are probably in style again and I just didn't know it. I liked the colors and felt grown up/put together with it on---which is always a goal when getting dressed in something other than sweats. Hesitating at the price tag though, $68 seems steep for a sheer top. But then there were those sweet referral credits to use...

VERDICT: Kept it.

5. Olive & Oak Janno Capelet Cardigan: $78

2015-12-31_0007
I am seriously obsessed with this sleeveless, vest sweater cardigan I pinned from The Small Things Blog on Instagram. As in, I have scoured the internets to the best of my ability to find something similar to wear over collared shirts and have come up empty. {Skilled Internet Shoppers: help a sister out!} So I was excited when Kelley said she sent a short sleeved cardigan for me. But this? Meh.

Olive & Oak Janno Capelet Cardigan: $78

It's an odd length for me, the sleeve length doesn't suit me, and is pretty bulky without being a 'cute' bulky. It reminds me of another weirdly bulky miss of a cardigan I received in fix #3 and I'm sure that wearing a long sleeved tee shirt or a collared shirt might help this feel more put together, but I didn't even feel inspired enough to try.
Olive & Oak Janno Capelet Cardigan: $78

I mostly just felt really ridiculous in it, but I think someone much shorter than me could pull this off well.
Olive & Oak Janno Capelet Cardigan: $78
VERDICT: Returned it.

Here is my referral link if you want to join in on the fun that is Stitch Fix. Did I pick the correct two items out of this box? Should I have kept that blue tunic, too? Do you notice my trend with pieces I've kept?

Coming up next: a rapid-fire, subsequent fix that I didn't mean to schedule. As in, I received another box just a little over a week after receiving this one. Very confusing, but stay tuned for details.

  1. I think you should have kept the blue tunic - it didn't look weird at all - I thought it looked great, ha. Love the striped cardigan (since I have the same one, ha)!

  2. I love your Stitch Fix reviews so freaking much.

This sweater vest/tunic thing is cute, styled RIDICULOUSLY and HILARIOUSLY by Free People but that is their thing, so whatever. ;) But I think it would look super cute with a long sleeve top underneath, or a flannel or other type of button down. Kinda spendy though.

But yes, that slouchy asymmetrical v-neck one you pinned is so deliciously beautiful.

    1. LOL'd at the styling on the vest but agree it could be adorable with the right under shirt. Not my bare chest bones sticking out like the model, but has potential!

  3. I like the items you kept, but I think the blue tunic was a keeper too!

  5. I just got the striped cardigan in the black/grey color combination in my pre-Christmas "free" fix. I hated the price tag too, but I couldn't resist keeping it. I love the plaid top on you, but can totally see what you are talking about on the sides. And I didn't want to like the floral at first because it just isn't my thing, but it looks great on you! I may have to request something floral to mix it up a bit.

    1. Didn't know the long cardigan came in black and gray, would be super classy!

  6. I would have kept the blue tunic! It really looked great on you. Would have been great with black skinnies and black booties for date night :)

I agree with your other keeps/returns though. I have an on again/off again relationship with Stitch Fix. I want to love them, but they never seem to peg my style (or pay attention to my gigantic Pinterest board created just for them!!!!).

  7. I notice they always include a card with two options as to how to wear the piece - with jeans, or with a skirt, etc. I did get a chuckle out of the blue tunic top though - that card says "tunic", yet both pics are wearing it as a dress! (unless I'm missing something?) Personally, that color is great on you, and I liked it on you. It's something a little different besides, as you say - the same ol' henley tops you lean towards. Great color and a little different twist of tunic top. But, I agree, it does boil down to those prices - some are beyond ridiculous.
