Fall 2017 Day in the Life Heads Up

Somehow it's already October, which means it's time for the quarterly Day in the Life!

I asked if my blog friend, Liz, would host this quarter again because life feels a little too nutso to take this on. However, I'm hoping to actually participate and link up this quarter and you should, too!

Find Liz here: your posts are due to her by October 22, so pull out your calendars and get to it.

I have this crazy idea for how to do this post without it taking a million years to write up and add pictures....not sure it's nearly the same caliber for details and fun reading. BUT. What if I just do a lot of Instastories the day, complete with time stamps and writing out details, videos, and pictures. Then I save the whole video from the day and embed it into the blog to be a visual account of that particular day? Less typing, less time spent adding pictures, but still documenting a day...the lazy way!?

I don't know, I just might go for it this time around.

P.S. Being back to work this past week was fine. I say 'fine' because Wallace started off the week pretty strong, taking 3-5 ounces in a day while I was away. But by Thursday and Friday, the wheels fell off and he took exactly ZERO ounces on Friday. He's crying for a solid hour or so by the end of our time apart and then wants to nurse all evening long. Luckily he isn't up all night (knock on wood, dear Lord) but it's still really hard and stressful. Pumping just one time yields about 8-9 ounces for me and I think he 'should' drink at least 6 oz while I'm gone. But this child has a strong affinity for nursing and still hates the bottle.

He is Porter's exact opposite. We will figure it out. Three months old tomorrow!

Day in The Life Summer 2017 | Heads Up

Hello, all!

We are home and soaking in life with Wallace, resting and reflecting and feeling mighty grateful. I'm mentally preparing to write the birth story next, so stay tuned!

But first: Summer Day in the Life is here. My friend Liz is collecting posts this time and will feature the round up at the end, as well. Pretty sure I won't be documenting this quarter, which will be the first time in YEARS that I've skipped. But you know, new baby and all.

Go to Liz's post on her blog Ellie and Addie here. You have until July 23rd to email her your post. So get to it!

Thanks for the well-wishes, internet friends.

Day in the Life | Heads Up Spring 2017

It's that time again! (Collective groan/sigh). Let's all get wild and record an entire day in our lives, in detail. YES!

All Photos-208

The details:

Any time from today until April 21st you should record your day in detail. That gives you over two weeks to decide on a day.

It can be as specific or as general as you want. I personally tend to record these days as a note in my phone, including specific times of day as I'm psychotic with details. Totally not necessary for you to do the same, as simple is probably better and means it's less overwhelming! I try to jot down quotes from the kids, to mention my thoughts as things are happening, and to keep track of the nitty gritty details in a day. I would probably remember enough if I just sat down and tried to type it all a day or two later but I don't trust my mommy brain *that* much. So a note on my phone is a must for me.

Snap pictures as you go along, the easiest method being with your phone but if you are feeling extra energetic, a 'fancy' camera also works for a post like this. Sometimes just taking a screen shot of your phone to remember the time of day, or an email you read, the weather forecast, et cetera is helpful as you write up the posts. I also like the seemingly random pictures of messy houses, meals, receipts, pets, the scenery from your parking lot spot, your house, and so on. Making collages for your pictures is helpful when it's difficult to choose which images to post (always a serious issue for me). Again, get as detailed or as general as you want with the pictures, but I think the mundane details are what makes these posts interesting. Don't forget to get pictures of YOU in this post, either. Get your friends and family involved. Maybe purchase a selfie stick (I just got one and you can bet your butt I'll use it this time!) but step in front of the camera for this post.

My method is that I just email myself the iPhone 'note' from the day, and then I paste it into my blog post as a foundation. I'll go back and clean it up, elaborate on thoughts/events, and make sure it's written in English instead of just abbreviations from my note. Then I will add the pictures after that. Whatever method works for you though, as there are many ways to write about a single day in your life!

It's a lot of fun to read back on my own posts, and it's also quite entertaining to read everyone else's day. If you want to play along this quarter, here is what to do:

1. Record any day from now until Friday, April 21st. Type it up and turn it into a blog post. You can do it!

2. Email me the following to mylifeintransitionblog at gmail dot com by April 21st at midnight:

*your blog title,
*your location (state or country is fine),
*the link to your post,
*attach the file of the photo you want to be featured in the round up post.
*optional: give me your Instagram name, perhaps I will attempt to tag everyone over there if extra energetic.

3. I will post everyone's link and picture by April 24th here on my blog. Get the popcorn and clear your schedule for this one!

I love reading these posts from women all around the world, and encourage you to try it even if you aren't a blogger. And it's definitely not just for mommy bloggers, either! You could turn these posts into a photo book, you could let them live online if you have a blog, or you could just look back on them and reminisce about the glory days once life settles down a bit more (ha!).

I will do these quarterly: January, April, July, and October. USUALLY, you can expect to record your day and post about it in the first fourteen days, send it to me, and I will continue to post the round up by the twentieth of those months.

So pick your day (or week) and get to it!

Day in the Life | Heads Up for Summer 2016

This is pretty wild, but I'm upping the dates for our quarterly DiTL by a few days. Usually I say from the first of the month until the 14th you can document and I post by the 20th. But now I'm saying from TODAY until Sunday, July 10th at midnight is your time frame. I want to have the round up post finalized and published before we leave the state later that week. Hope you can still participate!

(Selfie sticks are hard. I wanted to include this picture as the only one in this post so that it pops up in your Feedly/Bloglovin and makes you chuckle. You're welcome. I actually snapped a 'burst' of approximately 500 like this when trying to learn my S.S. which makes it even better. Technology man.)
All Photos-600

My method is that I just email myself the iPhone 'note' from the day, and then I paste it into my blog post as a foundation. I'll go back and clean it up, elaborate on thoughts/events, and make sure it's written in English instead of just abbreviations from my note. Then I will add the pictures after that. Whatever method works for you though, as there are many ways to write about a single day in your life!

It's a lot of fun to read back on my own posts, and it's also quite entertaining to read everyone else's day. If you want to play along this quarter, here is what to do:

1. Record any day from now until July 14th. Type it up and turn it into a blog post. You can do it!

2. Email me the following to mylifeintransitionblog at gmail dot com by July 15th:

*your blog title,
*your location (state or country is fine),
*the link to your post,
*and please attach the file of the photo you want to be featured in the round up post.

3. I will post everyone's link and picture by July 20th here on my blog.

Laura, the original founder of this Day in the Life link up, also records an entire week during one of these quarterly sessions. That is something I've never tackled before, but maybe someday if I'm feeling particularly adventurous. I know she makes those posts into a photo album book and her family is going to greatly appreciate the time it took to record every day events.

I will do these quarterly: January, April, July, and October. You can expect to record your day and post about it in the first fourteen days, send it to me, and I will continue to post the round up by the twentieth of those months.

So pick your day (or week) and get to it!

Day in the Life: Heads up for Spring 2015

The fabulous Laura at Navigating the Mothership is passing her Day in the Life baton to yours truly. I'm happy to continue her tradition of rounding up various bloggers, asking them to document a single day in their lives, then posting links for all to read. Consider it a glimpse into the daily details that tend to fade away as time marches on. In other words: super interesting although it may seem super boring in theory. It's not and I love it!

The details:

I will continue doing these quarterly: January, April, July, and October. To keep things simple and so that I have a more solid time frame in mind, I will plan to post the reminder at the beginning of those months. You will the first fourteen days of those months to capture your day. You can email me your link and preferred picture by the 16th. I will plan to have the posts linked up on my blog by the 20th.

So any time from today until April 14th you should record your day in detail.
